Tesla’s Solar-Powered Charging Network

September 26th, 2012

Tesla is unveiling their network of chargers, which will allow Tesla owners to charge their cars while driving through high-traffic corridors in the U.S., including driving between Northern and Southern California, Miami and New York, and Los Angeles to New York.

The chargers will provide up to 3 hours’ worth of driving in 30 minutes, and here’s the coolest part: they’re free to use for Tesla owners, because the chargers are powered by solar panels.

Fantastic idea on Tesla’s part. I hope the Model S is a big success; the car looks great, but more important, it could show that purely electric cars are a viable alternative to gasoline-powered cars. And Tesla really, really needs the cash flow.
