NetNewsWire 3.2 is out of beta.
It’s a big release. The big news is, of course, it syncs with Google Reader (Brent removed NewsGator syncing and .Mac/FTP syncing so he can focus on developing useful parts of the application rather than fixing redundant sync paths) and it has a send-to-Instapaper command, which is really neat.
NetNewsWire 2.0 for the iPhone was also released. It syncs through Google Reader, of course, but adds a ton of features. The 2.0 can send to Instapaper and Twitter, has an embedded web browser, and can send emails within the application.
The 2.0 also brings a second premium version of NetNewsWire for the iPhone. The free version is fully-featured, but displays ads from the Deck. The premium version removes the ads and costs $1.99, rising to $4.99 in October (which is more than reasonable for what a great application it is).
NetNewsWire is one of the few third-party applications I use every day on my iPhone, and these features make it better without changing its fundamental focus: a simple, no bullshit way to read feeds while on the go.
I’m really excited to see what’s coming in NetNewsWire 4.0 (for the desktop). Brent’s a great developer, and now that he has this transition finished, I’m sure he has a lot of great ideas for the next version (which it sounds like he’s already working on).
