David Pogue reviews the Nexus Q:
Incredibly, the Q can’t even play music that you’ve loaded on your phone or tablet. Again, what the — ?
You sit there on the couch, knowing that you can play music from some Google server hundreds of miles away, but that the tunes right on your phone, eight feet from the Q, are locked inside.
What was Google thinking with the Nexus Q? It’s a $300 ball that only plays media from their own store. If they want to develop it into something closer to the AppleTV, why release it now, when it’s so incapable, and why release it at a price where it’s a nonstarter to nearly all potential customers? Are they so afraid of Google TV’s failure, and their entry into the family room slipping away with it, they released a product with very little purpose and a price tag that’s three-times too large?
