Stanford Redesigns Its Computer Science Program

July 3rd, 2012

Stanford completely re-designed their computer science program:

The goal was to cast a wider net, to allow computer science majors to see how their skills could be directly applied to a variety of needs. Likewise, the department wanted to draw in students from other disciplines to see the impact of computer science on their fields and, perhaps, to encourage some of them to consider computer science for their major area of study.

Rather than take one track of monolithic and strictly computer science courses, students choose a track (artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, etc), and can take two to four electives in other fields.

Smart.
