The concept of User Experience Design was born out of good intentions, but is now such a widely accepted term that its value as a clear definition of what a designer does to affect good design is passing quickly. It’s a fad. User Experience Design is plainly, and simply, a set of tools and disciplines used to affect good design. There are no User Experience Designers—just good designers.
I think something we’re starting to realize, too, is design isn’t just about product design. It’s holistic, and includes everything from the product, how the customer gets the product, and all the way to the organizational structure itself that makes the product. Everything must be designed for a very specific and overarching purpose. Design does not come after the fact, it’s involved from the very beginning.
