Mark Jardine, when asked what he’s failed at in life:
Everything? I think you have to fail to learn and get better at something. There’s really no way around it. The trick is to accept failure as a part of the process and know that by trying again, you’ll do just a little bit better.
It’s easy to look at the fantastic work people like Mark do and feel like there’s no way you can do something that good. But what we rarely see from the people we look up to for their work are the first projects they worked on, and the first iterations of their public work.
Everyone fails. The difference between someone who doesn’t do anything spectacular and someone who does something great is the latter person isn’t afraid to fail, and fail, and fail, until they’ve created something worth being proud of. And when you assume that failure is just a part of the process of learning, just a step along the way, it becomes a lot easier.
