No More Reading Glasses

December 5th, 2010

Christopher Been is getting an iPad for his mother’s 100 year-old husband:

He looked down at the large-print book in his lap, looked up at the iPad, and said,

“This is the end of libraries for me. How marvelous!”

My grandmother bought a Sony e-reader a few months before the iPad was released and stopped using it after a few days because when she set the text to a readable size for her, the small screen held barely any text.

After using my iPad for a few minutes, she ran out and bought one. She reads all of her books on it now, and loves it both because of the large screen and because it is backlit, so she can read at night without the light on.
