Keith Hennessey on the difficulties Democrats face in trying to pass the Senate health care bill through the House, and an accompanying reconciliation bill through both Houses.
It’s going to be difficult for them. It’s difficult for the same reason passing the House or Senate versions during the fall was difficult, and it has nothing to do with Republicans. It’s an internal problem for the Democrats.
Coincidentally, this makes it easy to understand why Obama and the Democrats have been so insistent on demonizing the Republicans for not helping pass their bill. They’re trying to (1) create political cover for using reconciliation (e.g., “we tried to work with them, and they wouldn’t!”), and (2) to make one last attempt to coerce Republicans into supporting them. They need to trash Republicans to cover up for their own party’s failure.
