Macworld: Adobe betas preview next round of Creative Suite apps

Adobe has adopted the Webkit rendering engine, letting users see how a Dreamweaver page will look without leaving the application. Webkit is the engine that powers Apple’s Safari Web browser.

Fireworks users gain a new option to export design comps as high-fidelity, interactive, and secure Adobe PDF documents, according to Adobe.

Definitely a smart move on Adobe’s part — Webkit preview in Coda is great, and Dreamweaver’s preview isn’t very useful from my experience. It doesn’t take very long for it to render pages completely wrong, nothing at all like what real browsers would.

The export to PDF feature is also nice, but Dreamweaver still feels much too bloated for me to use. I love Coda’s minimalist design while still including the essentials. It loads quickly, is simple to use and conceptualize, and generally makes designing a joy.

I don’t own CS3, and while that sometimes limits me a bit, investing in Adobe’s huge-application paradigm bothers me.
